WHY DO YOU NEED TO IDENTIFY AND REMOVE GIANT HOGWEED?

Giant Hogweed is an aggressive, invasive plant species that poses a serious threat to both the environment and public health. Its rapid growth along riverbanks, roadsides, and open spaces can outcompete native vegetation, leading to habitat degradation and increased soil erosion. More importantly, its toxic sap can cause severe skin burns and long-lasting sensitivity to sunlight. Due to the dangers associated with this plant, professional management is essential to ensure safe and effective removal. At Asbestos Management Company, we provide expert identification, control, and eradication services for Giant Hogweed, helping to protect both people and the local ecosystem. HOW TO IDENTIFY GIANT HOGWEED

Giant Hogweed is a towering plant that can grow up to 5 metres tall. It can be identified by:

  • Thick, green stems with purple blotches and coarse white hairs

  • Large deeply lobed leaves

  • Umbrella-shaped clusters of white flowers that bloom between June and August.

The plant's toxic sap is contained within its stem, leaves, and flowers, and can cause severe burns upon skin contact, especially when exposed to sunlight. Given the risks, it is crucial to avoid handling the plant and to seek professional assistance if it is found on your land.

SURVEY AND MANAGEMENT PROCESS

If you have Giant Hogweed on your property, our team offers comprehensive site surveys to assess the infestation and develop a tailored treatment plan. We use specialised control methods, including targeted herbicide application and safe removal techniques, to prevent regrowth and long-term spread. Our expertise in invasive plant management ensures full compliance with environmental and safety regulations, helping landowners, developers, and local authorities mitigate the risks associated with Giant Hogweed.
